Foreign nationals residing in Niigata City under 75 years of age must enroll in the National Health Insurance provided by Niigata City.
Upon enrollment, monthly premium must be paid, and a health insurance card will be issued. By presenting the health insurance card when receiving treatment at medical facilities, you will only be required to pay 30% of your medical bill.
However, you will be liable for full amount of the medical bill for treatment not covered by the health insurance scheme.
Following insurance programs are offered to cover for accidents during your studies at the university.

National program for students covering injury to the student from accidents occurring during university classes, events, extracurricular activities (reported to the university) and commute.

National program for students covering damages under law incurred by students from causing injury to others or damaging properties of others during university classes, events, extracurricular activities (reported to the university) and commute.
Gakkensai and Gakkenbai programs are operated to provide greater coverage for less premium. All new students are encouraged to purchase these insurances at time of their enrollment.
This insurance program includes coverage for routine injury and illness and personal liability for damages caused to third party properties, to provide sense of security to international students. It also covers expenses for carers in case the student is hospitalized and guardians visit. Monthly insurance is available corresponding to the period of study.
