As stated in the "Guidelines for Responding to Misconduct in Research" decided by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, research misconduct violates the essence of research and the publication of the results, betraying science itself. For this reason, Niigata University focuses on preventing research misconduct by thoroughly complying with the law, regulations established by our university and "Code of Conduct for Scientists and Guidelines for Scientist Conduct at Niigata University".

Research misconduct means the fabrication, falsification, plagiarism and duplicate posting of research and survey data and other research results during the process of presenting or compiling research results, also including destroying and interfering with the established proof of such wrong doings. These include concealing and destroying materials such as experimental records that are essential for replication research and recreation.
However, cases where data or experimental records are handled as honest errors, disagreements or common practices in the research field are not included.
