A New Year's party organized by the Chinese Students' Association of Niigata University was held at the Dai-ichi Cafeteria on the Ikarashi Campus on Monday, January 21.
Our university has 338 Chinese students enrolled as of November 1, 2018. Since many Chinese students cannot return to China for the Spring Festival, the Lunar New Year, due to their studies, the Association holds a New Year's party at this time every year, inviting local residents to express their gratitude for the support. About 140 participants including international students, local residents, faculty and staff celebrated the New Year together. Consul General Sun Dagang of the Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Niigata was invited and gave a short address as a guest.

The venue was decorated for the Spring Festival. The participants mingled with each other as they enjoyed Chinese food. Along with the traditional performing arts such as songs and dances presented by Chinese students, Japanese students performed the Niigata So-Odori Dance, in which the Chinese students joined, making the party come alive.
The participants from China and Japan deepened their relationships and strengthened their ties by becoming more acquainted with each other's cultures and traditions. The party turned out to be a big success.
