August 07, 2020
A global study conducted by researchers at the Niigata University Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences including Associate Professor Tomoki Maekawa (also a research professor at the Institute for Research Promotion) and Professor Takeyasu Maeda of the Center for Advanced Oral Science, Professor Yutaka Terao of the Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, and Professor Koichi Tabeta of the Division of Periodontology, in collaboration with the Kyoto Pharmaceutical University, the University of Pennsylvania in the US, and the Technical University of Dresden in Germany, revealed that the macrolide antibiotic erythromycin exhibited anti-inflammatory activity against pneumonia and periodontitis by inducing DEL-1.
