Global Fest. 2025 Happy Holiday in Niigata University

Jan 08 2026

The "Global Fest. 2025 Happy Holiday in Niigata University" was held on December 17 with the aim of promoting exchange and friendship among Niigata University students, faculty, and staff regardless of nationality and cultural background.

A total of 162 people including international students, Japanese students, faculty, and staff attended the event, held in Cafeteria No. 3. President USHIKI Tatsuo delivered an opening address, saying "Good evening" in several languages, which was followed by the opening toast given by Executive Vice President for Global Affairs SOMEYA Toshiyuki. International students, Japanese students, faculty, and staff promoted friendship while enjoying dishes unique to Niigata, such as "Shio musubi" (salted rice balls) made of Niigata Koshihikari rice, and "Sasadango" (sweet rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo grass leaves).

This event was carried out based on the plan to experience Japanese festivals and traditional culture, which was selected from among the exchange event ideas about which both international students scheduled to enroll in October and Japanese students thought together at the “Niigata University Online Summer Program 2025,” held in August. The event’s preparation and operation were also conducted by the participants in the summer program. At the shooting and quoits section, there were loud cheers from audience each time players gained success. In the Origami section, many international students enjoyed making Origami cranes while learning the art of paper folding from Japanese students.

International students gave various performances, including playing folk instruments and singing popular songs in their home countries. As some international students suddenly started to dance, other participants, both international students and Japanese students, also held hands and danced in a circle.

As part of efforts to create a global campus, NU will continue to promote exchange among international students and researchers, Japanese students, faculty, and staff.
