The “Global Fest. 2025 in Niigata University” was held on February 7 with the aim of promoting exchange and friendship among Niigata University students, faculty, and staff regardless of nationality, race, etc. It was the first time in six years that a university-wide fellowship for international students was held. The “International Exchange Evening Party,” a social gathering for international students, faculty, staff, and community members, had not been held since FY 2019 due to COVID-19.
Despite the heavy snowfall, 102 people including international students and researchers, Japanese students, faculty, and staff attended the event, held in Student Cafeteria 1. Following the opening speech by President USHIKI Tatsuo, Executive Vice President SOMEYA Toshiyuki (in charge of Global Promotion) gave the opening toast. International students, Japanese students, faculty, and staff enjoyed conversations with each other around tables filled with dishes unique to Niigata, such as boiled “Gosen” taros and “Sasadango” (bamboo dumplings) as well as sushi, sandwiches, and other light meals. Many international students took pictures with President USHIKI Tatsuo with the university banner in the background at a picture-taking place.
After a short break for chatting, international students and foreign faculty members, including walk-in participants, performed songs in Japanese and English on the stage one after another, drawing cheers from the audience. The NU Global Fest, a venue for multicultural and multinational exchange, ended on a high note.
