Niigata University held "Study in Japan Online Educational Fair" for Republic of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyz Republic on Wednesday, December 14. The fair was organized for learners and students of Japanese language and culture, and aimed at providing a wide range of useful information for those who wish to study in Japan in the future. About a total of 55 people participated in the event, and showed considerable enthusiasm for studying in Japan.
The Fair was carried out as part of "Study in Japan Global Network Project," which is the Japanese government’s initiative, aiming to increase the number of international students studying in Japan. Niigata University, Hokkaido University and the University of Tsukuba have been commissioned to implement the project by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), and they have jointly launched the activity with a view to gaining international students from the CIS region excluding Russia and Belarus. The fair was held in cooperation with Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. It was the first time that Niigata University had organized such a fair for Republic of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyz Republic.
On the day, a total of five Japanese universities took part in the event: Niigata University; the University of Tsukuba; Hokkaido University; Tokyo University of Foreign Studies; and Graduate Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies. The universities promoted their own programs, courses, and distinguished research activities. In addition, Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) provided basic information on studying in Japan, including available scholarships, language requirement, and the schedule of examinations.
Furthermore, Professor MORIO Takahiro, Bureau of Global Initiatives, the University of Tsukuba, delivered a mock lecture on the topic of "Japanese Manga," which is of great interest to Japanese language learners. He conducted a lecture, titled, "Learning from Manga," and explained the history of Japanese manga, and the great variety of its topics and genres in a thought-provoking way. After the lecture, participants asked a variety of questions to the lecturer and interacted with each other, which enabled them to have a valuable opportunity to attend a class given by a professor from a Japanese university.
In the final part of the fair, Ms. Nukeneva Araylym from Republic of Kazakhstan, working at a trading company in Niigata after earning her Master’s degree at Graduate Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies, and Ms. Payazova Zhyldyz from Kyrgyz Republic, working in her home country as a project coordinator of JICA after studying at the University of Tsukuba, gave presentations about their work and student life in Japan. Apart from the presentations, round-table discussions were held and they shared useful hands-on experience as well as valuable knowledge with the participants.
The program brought together a variety of participants from different fields and provided a wide range of information about studying in Japan with the students in the two countries.
Niigata University will continue to further promote academic collaboration with universities abroad and encourage students from many countries to study in Japan making use of our achievements we have made through cooperation with universities in other countries.
