On Tuesday, May 21, a group of graduate students as well as academic and administrative staff from Peking University visited Niigata University in order to carry out the student exchange program with a variety of nationalities. The group was led by Prof. Wu Zhipan of Peking University Law School, the former Executive Vice President, which made this visit momentous.
This visit was a part of the 14th Japan-visit program as the joint project between Peking University and the Japan Foundation as a co-organizer. Through the good offices of Prof. Yasuki Masui and Prof. Li Hanmei of the Faculty of Law, Niigata University, this visit was realized. Niigata University, especially the Faculty of Law, has encouraged academic staff and student exchange over a quarter-century with Peking University, which is known for the leading university in China, based on the inter-university agreement.
The group consisting of 20 doctoral students studying Japan as their subject of study and 2 academic and administrative members attended the special lecture presented in Chinese by Prof. Masui along with 15 students from Niigata University including Indian, Russian and Chinese followed by a lively and fruitful question and answer session held regarding the relation between Japan and China in North East Asia, the relation between Niigata and China as well as some issues Japan is facing currently.
Afterwards, the group went on a campus tour undertaken by our students. Over lunch, all of the students interacted well in English and Chinese and the program ended in a calm and friendly atmosphere.
