The Sakeology Center at Niigata University conducted a seminar on its effort of Sakeology at "Niigata Sakenojin 2019"* held at Toki Messe, Niigata Convention Center on Saturday, March 9.
*"Niigata Sakenojin" is the event, which was held for the first time in 2004 as the 50th anniversary of Niigata Sake Brewers Association. Attendees from outside of Niigata and Japan enjoy more than 500 varieties of sake, produced by Niigata Sake brewers with local cuisine.
The seminar was held twice as part of dissemination of information about Sakeology. In the morning, a lecture on "The effort of Sakeology" was given by Assoc. Prof. Yasuyuki Kishi of Faculty of Economics, and the other on "Japanese sake and food – research the taste of Japanese sake and foods from a scientific perspective" was given by Prof. Shinobu Fujimura of Faculty of Agriculture in the afternoon. The venue was almost filled to capacity where many participants earnestly took notes. Throughout the two-day event of "Niigata Sakenojin 2019", from Saturday, March 9 to Sunday, March 10, we introduced our Sakeology Center at the panel exhibition in the venue. At the opening ceremony of the event, along with Mr. Hideyo Hanazumi, the Governor of Niigata Prefecture and Mr. Shunji Odaira, the Chairman of the Niigata Sake Brewers Association, Prof. Sugata Takahashi, the President of Niigata University joined "kagamibiraki", opening a sake barrel by breaking its lid, followed by a toast in celebration of the opening. |
