On January 15, 2019, Niigata University signed an inter-university agreement with University of Bordeaux, and the Sakeology Center concluded an exchange agreement with Institute of Vine & Wine Science, University of Bordeaux (ISVV).
University of Bordeaux, originally founded in 1441 and newly established in 2014 from the merger, is the third largest university in France with a long history. ISVV is domestically and internationally renowned for its world-leading research on oenology within University of Bordeaux offering all academic fields of study.
The Sakeology Center established in April, 2018 has been discussing future cooperation with ISVV, which is the famed institute in Bordeaux, the center of a major wine-growing and wine producing region.
This agreement was concluded to promote collaborative research and student exchange in various fields including zymurgy with the cooperation of the Niigata Sake Brewers Association and Niigata Prefecture. Furthermore, we aim to expand academic and student exchange in a wide range of academic disciplines with this inter-university agreement.
These agreements are expected to lead to not only further promotion of exchanges but also the first step forward getting Niigata to achieve international recognition as a famous sake brewing district.
