Assistant Professor SHIMONISHI Takashi of the Center for Transdisciplinary Research received the 12th Encouragement Award of Society for Promotion of Space Science in the field of Cosmo Sciences.
The award aims at honouring young researchers who have achieved outstanding results in the field of space science, and are expected to play a significant role in the development of space science in the future, and it was established by the Society for Promotion of Space Science.
The award ceremony, which had been postponed, was held online on Monday, March 8, and Assist. Prof. SHIMONISHI was presented with an award certificate and a plaque.
He has pioneered and promoted the new research field, "astrochemistry in low-metallicity environments", and achieved innovative and exceptional results, using data from the Japan’s first infrared astronomical satellite AKARI and various ground-based telescopes.
He was awarded the prize for his strong motivation to pioneer a new field, his tenacious efforts in analysing the data of scientific satellites, and his future potential.
