The Sakeology Center Niigata University, Niigata Prefectural Government, and the Niigata Sake Brewers Association held the third Sakeology Symposium, "2020 Future of Sakeology" on Tuesday, December 15, 2020.
This year, the symposium was held online for the first time in view of the prevention of the spread of COVID-19. On the day, there were 228 participants, including universities from inside and outside the prefecture, research institutes, people related to corporations, and? the general public.
At the symposium, which was held for the third time, the activity reports on the Sakeology Center as well as the research reports by specially appointed assistant professors were presented. Furthermore, the speeches titled "Expectations for Sakeology" were delivered by people from government and industry, including Mr. Shunji ODAIRA, the chairpersopn of the Niigata Sake Brewers Association, Ms. Nami GOTOH, the president of the National Research Institute of Brewing, Prof. Tohru FUSHIKI, the chairperson of the Washoku Association of Japan, belonging to Ryukoku University,? and Ms. Mikiko SAKAMOTO, the executive officer of the East Japan Railway Company.
During the symposium, the digest version of "Knowledge-based Tourism of Sakeology (Exploring Niigata Sake)" was firstly revealed, which enables viewers to virtually experience lectures on Sakeology and a sake brewery tour. It was a series of videos made with the support of the Agency for Cultural Affairs Government of Japan through the Japan Arts Council, FY 2020.
