Niigata University has signed an inter-university agreement with Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc).

IISc is a public institute established in 1909, located in Bengaluru, India. IISc is known as India's leading institute for research and higher education in science and engineering achieving the first rank in the list of top Universities in India over the past three years, released by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

Niigata University's Faculty of Science and the Graduate School of Science and Technology are working on educating "Global Field Research Specialists" through cooperation with multiple universities in India. This agreement was concluded to further expand academic and student exchange between the two universities based on the collaborative research for over 25 years between Assistant Professor Sajeev Krishnan of Centre for Earth Sciences, IISc and Professor Satish-Kumar of our Faculty of Science.

On September 3, 2018, the signing ceremony was held in Bangalore, which was attended by the President Sugata Takahashi, Prof. Satish-Kumar and others from Niigata University and Professor Rahul Pandit, the Director In-charge, Professor Rudra Pratap, Deputy Director and other executives/relevant members of IISc, as well as the Consular-General, Mr. Takayuki Kitagawa of Consulate-General of Japan in Bengaluru. The ceremony was chaired by Prof. Rahul Pandit, followed by the presentation from both the universities. The Agreement was signed in a friendly and cordial atmosphere, where both sides confirmed their commitment to promote cooperation for the future.

We will continue to expand academic and student exchanges with India as part of the East Asian Rim scheme.
