President Takahashi visited the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka between August 31st and September 1st to participate in the 6th Conference on Sri Lanka - Japan Collaborative Research.
The Conference was organized by Sri Lanka - Japan Study Center established in 2013 within the University of Peradeniya in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka. Since its establishment, researchers from Japan and Sri Lanka have held joint sessions for various research fields annually. This year, President Takahashi was invited to be the co-chair since Niigata University has developed cooperation in varied fields under the inter-university agreement with the University of Peradeniya.

At the beginning of the Conference, President Takahashi gave the opening address including the topic of the cooperation between the two universities as well as the introduction to our university, followed by technical sessions in which the participants had a meaningful discussion including some presentations from our professors and students.
The day before the Conference, President Takahashi made a courtesy call on Prof. Upul B. Dissanayake, Vice Chancellor, the University of Peradeniya tracing the history of their partnership and discussing further promoting cooperation for the future.
Niigata University shall seek closer global cooperation in East Asian Rim regions including Sri Lanka.
