Niigata University has been conducting classes online or through other "non-face-to-face" means avoiding contact with others for lectures in the first semester (first and second term) in AY 2020. We also have suspended classes involving face-to-face interaction, including experimental/laboratory subjects during the first term.
At the same time, we have been required to gradually resume our daily life and business based on "New Lifestyle" since a nationwide state of emergency was lifted on May 25. Then we have sought an opportunity to gradually resume our educational and research activities.
As a result, we have decided to conduct face-to-face classes starting on June 16 in the second term for certain experimental/laboratory/internship subjects which are difficult to be held through non-face-to-face means as well as essential to be held during AY 2020 due to the requirements for moving up to the next year or graduation, including national examinations. Those subjects (list of the subjects for face-to-face classes) need to be approved by the university to take thorough infection control measures.
We would like you to keep the following in mind in case you take face-to-face laboratory /experimental/internship classes.
1. Conditions to observe for students taking face-to-face classes
- Take your temperature and self-monitor your health twice a day (morning/evening). Check whether you are experiencing some symptoms, such as cough, shortness of breath and fatigue.
- If you are experiencing some symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath and fatigue, etc.), stay at home. Make sure to inform your class teacher of your symptoms and follow his/her instruction. We have requested our faculty members to give alternative assignment to ensure your learning opportunities.
- In case your family members, whom you are living with, are experiencing fever, cough, shortness of breath and fatigue, you can take classes with wearing a mask, washing and sanitizing your hands.
- Record your daily actions including time, place, and company in case your are infected.
- Practice "New Lifestyle", such as refraining from chatting, avoiding peak-hours, and taking a walk or riding a bike if possible when you commute by public transportation.
- If you are compelled to take non-face-to-face classes on campus due to the timetable, you can attend classes in the designated lecture rooms using on-campus WiFi.
- Make sure to frequently check the notice from your class teacher and follow his/her instruction before/during/after classes as the contents and places of classes vary depending on the subjects.
2.Attending classes involving travel
(a)For those students who have moved to Niigata before the start of class from their hometown
- It is unnecessary to stay at home for two weeks after moving to Niigata from your hometown within Niigata prefecture, and you can attend face-to-face experimental/laboratory classes unless you are experiencing cough, fever, shortness of breath and fatigue. It is also unnecessary to inform your class teacher that you have recently moved to Niigata from your hometown.
- In case you moved to Niigata from other prefectures, you are required to monitor your health for two weeks by taking your temperature and recording all the symptoms of illness. In addition, we ask you to record all activities (when, where, who) you took while you were traveling.
(b)For those students who can not return to Niigata from their hometown before the first class due to the unavoidable circumstances
