"Double Home", community-based project at Niigata University helps students to enrich their college lives at two homes: 1st Home is their faculty and department where students belong and learn their special fields. 2nd Home, which is one step beyond, is a place to learn about the community. This year a total of 17 homes are acting vigorously.
Horigotatsu, one of the 2nd Homes, decided to utilize crowdfunding to further tackle activities to appeal the community. Crowdfunding is the use of small amounts of capital from a large number of individual supporters to finance a new business venture through the internet. With regard to the following project, we had asked for donations from those who would support us and were able to achieve our goal.
Project overview
Our 2nd Home "Horigotatsu", is working in Matsunoyama, Tokamachi City known for Bijin Bayashi (Beauty Bushes). Under the leadership of local residents, we grow rice in the wetlands without any pesticides or fertilizers. We are learning about traditional rice farming culture as we are trying to protect the rare flora and fauna in mountainous areas. This project aims to appeal the community through our activities undertaken by "Horigotatsu" in Matsunoyama, Tokamachi City.
