Professor Hirohito Sone, Associate Professor Kazuya Fujihara and their research team in the Department of Hematology, Endocrinology and Metabolism at the School of Medicine, Niigata University analyzed the medical big data of Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture; they examined the relationship between non-communicable diseases and the risk of having to need nursing care. The results demonstrated that even diabetic patients can reduce the risk of having to need nursing care to the same as that of non-diabetics if they exercise regularly. The research team will continue to investigate the factors that prevent needing nursing care, which is to prolong healthy life expectancy.
