A team led by Associate Professor Hisamori Domon and Professor Yutaka Terao of Niigata University Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences demonstrated that hinokitiol, a plant-based compound, is bactericidal against pneumococci, which are causes of pneumonia. The results of the study were published online in Microbiology and Immunology on May 20, 2019.
