The Closing Ceremony of the 2019 Autumn Semester for international students was held on Monday, February 10.
We have held the closing ceremony since 2017 as a milestone in their study abroad period because many of our international students return home after the end of the second semester. This year, 38 students from 10 countries and regions, including China, Taiwan, Australia, France, and Bangladesh attended the ceremony at the Library Hall on Ikarashi campus.
At the beginning of the ceremony, the slides recalling memories of the stay at Niigata University, produced by Niigata University International Volunteer Club, were shown, giving a glimpse of the fact that the international students had a fulfilling time.
Then, President USHIKI gave an address: to the enrolled students, he advised that they enjoy their spring vacation and let us know if there are any concerns during the vacation. To those who would return their home universities, he sent a message: "Please take much of what you learned at Niigata University, which has become your alma mater. Keeping that in mind, I am hoping that you will come back to Niigata University to continue studying at graduate school or conduct research. I believe in your bright future. Congratulations."
Following the President, a student from Costa Rica and Ghana spoke for the international students attending the ceremony. They stated that they made a lot of friends from various countries and regions during the stay and spent valuable time learning Japanese language as well as Japanese culture. They both also expressed their deep gratitude to their teachers and staff for their support.
At the ceremony, the international students looked happily at a Japanese-style teacup with the university logo, given as a commemorative small gift.
