Feb 28 2023

Niigata University signed inter-university agreements and addendums with five universities in India and Australia on February 21, 2023. The universities with which the agreements were concluded are: University of Wollongong (AUS); Macquarie University (AUS); Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IND); Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IND); Cochin University of Science and Technology (IND).

Faculty of Science, Niigata University (NU) has launched a new educational program called "Human Resource Development Program on Field Science Research in the Indo-Pacific Region" collaborating with nine universities in India, Australia and Sri Lanka. In academic year 2022, the program was adopted as the "Inter-University Exchange Project" by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The project plans to develop a hybrid student exchange program in field science research that combines both cloud-based online and onsite training to solve environmental problems. The inter-university agreements were concluded to coincide with the launch of the collaborative project.

A kick-off symposium for the program was also held on the same day with the onsite participation of delegates from the seven universities, five from India, one from Australia and one from Sri Lanka, in addition to online participation of the University of Wollongong, Australia. The University of Peradeniya (LKA), the Indian Institute of Science (IND), and Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IND) have existing MoUs. With the launch of this project, Niigata University looks forward to enhance the cooperation with the nine universities in the Indo-Pacific region, and develop a global field science program which meets the sustainable development goals (SDGs) that efficiently use resources and the environment.

The website for the program, "Human Resource Development Program on Field Science Research in the Indo-Pacific Region," will be released at a later date.
