Niigata University (NU) and Ronald McDonald House Charities Japan (DMHC), a public interest incorporated foundation, held the opening ceremony of Ronald McDonald House Niigata (Niigata House), an accommodation facility for sick children and their families, on August 30.
At the ceremony, DMHC Chairman IGARASHI Takashi, NU President USHIKI Tatsuo, NU Dental and Medical Hospital Director TOMITA Yoshihiko gave greetings, and Niigata Prefectural Governor HANAZUMI Hideyo delivered a congratulatory message. In addition, a ribbon cutting and a donation presentation ceremony were held, and messages of support for the Niigata House were screened.
The Niigata House, operated by DMHC, was jointly established by NU and DMHC on the premises of the university hospital in Asahimachi campus. It is the first pediatric care accommodation facility on the Sea of Japan, and the 12th house in Japan.
The facility is a four-storey reinforced concrete building having various rooms including 10 accommodation rooms, kitchen, living room, dining room and laundry. The accommodation is available for children and their family who are hospitalized or receiving regular outpatient treatment at hospitals in Niigata City such as Niigata University Medical and Dental Hospital, and Niigata Cancer Center Hospital.
The Niigata House started accepting reservations from September 1, and begins its operation from October 1.
